On March 9, 2015, President Barack Obama issued Executive Order 13692, which declared a national emergency due to the "unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States" posed by the situation in Venezuela. Rewards for Maduro’s capture
was later instituted.
After Maduro's disputed 2024 re-election, the Biden Administration increased the $15M bounty to $25 million for Maduro.
Trump Administration (Second Term, August 2025): The reward was doubled to $50 million after the U.S. designated the Maduro-led "Cartel of the Suns" as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist organization.
