In free markets, everyone has a vote, expressing what creates value for them by choosing goods and services at a price determined by those “votes.” In central planned economies, such as socialism, price is determined by a small group of elitists who think they know what is best for the masses. “Democratic socialism” is therefore an oxymoron.
That is why socialism always evolves into tyranny because the elitist few can’t control the free choices that drive markets. Underground economies develop that truly reflect the free and voluntary choices of the masses forcing the elitist few to limit individual freedom.
We don’t have to guess what happens under socialism and collectivism. We only need to look at Cuba, Russia, China, North Korea, Zimbabwe, and Nicaragua as modern day examples. People want to be free to choose. That freedom cannot be suppressed by a few elitists who think they know what is best for us.
