Dubai makes NYC look like a ghetto

I couldn't live in that climate (or, frankly, surrounded by that particular religion...not something a woman needs to be around, for all that foreign visitors are largely immune from its institutionalized misogyny)...but it's clean, safe, and modern.

Tokyo, of course, remains the greatest city on the planet...by some distance.

I would probably be bored either place.I prefer a less cluttered life, like where I am at the moment

I have had enough urban "wow" to last a lifetime.Big cities kind'a make me sad now. My bucket list includes a second seperate scenic 400 acre ranch, with a river or lake, 100 head of polled white face Hereford cattle and other assorted livestock about 50 miles from a progressive city. Middle Tennessee can make that haopen. My current "farm in the city" spread is a keepworthy treasure, but it is bordered by a former 1780s horse and buggy path that has become a 50,000 vehicle a day highway, so no cows there because of potential iability.

That's the thing with Tokyo, though: something for everyone.

Along with the glittering "neon canyons" of Shibuya or Shinjuku, Tokyo has many areas that are exceptionally tranquil and actually quiet. Even up to what you'd think was a remote, streamside trail along a narrow canyon but which is actually near the middle of teh greater Tokyo metro area (Todoroki Ravine...see pic below).

Lots in between, too, like the funky thrift-store vibe of Shimokitazawa, posh shopping areas like Nishi-Azabu/Roppongi or Omotesando, chill coffee house vibes in Koenji (or a bit more "metal" in Kichijoji!). I travel a lot, but I've never encounbtered a city that does as much different things as Tokyo, and does them so very well.

True. I loved that place. Virtually no crime and the food was amazing.
