... Obama's supposed great deal with Iran keeping them from getting nuclear weapons, with strict monitoring and oversight by the International Atomic Energy Commission, why isn't that program still in place?

I genuinely thought it was common knowledge that Trump withdrew the US from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018.

Does that necessarily mean that EU, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany ...

In fact, every other signatory opposed the US withdrawal. However, at the time of withdrawal the US immediately imposed severe economic sanctions and threatened huge "secondary sanctions" against any country that continued trading with Iran. Willingness to enter into that sort of confrontation with the US was in short supply.

Iran rolled back all discretionary JCPOA access gradually over 18 months. Then in 2021, they passed a law that prohibited any short-notice access and most monitoring cameras.

Trump stated at the time that the agreement was "insufficient" in several areas, including no delivery systems restrictions, the existence of some "sunset" provisions, and so forth.

Seems the other nations are impotent eunuchs without US support. If the treaty was all that important to them, they should have been able to continue to enforce it. But, Russia and China don't seem to care if Iran has nukes, and the other players are total wimps.

Iran would have violated the deal in secret anyway. Why do you think they kept brewing nuclear fuel in those underground bunkers that Trump bombed. If they were on the up and up, all enrichment would have been done in plain sight.

Measures and treaties which seem solid at the time don't work in the long run.

The goal should be to prevent Iran (or anyone else) from ever having nukes, but that is impossible to assure with any treaty.

To avoid a nuclear holocaust, the powers with nukes have to refrain from using nukes in perpetuity. That ain't gon'na happen. It's only a matter of time until we encounter mass annihilation of the human species. Governments are not smart enough to exercise perpetual restraint.

Your understanding of this (and any) situation rivals that of my dog.
