Only joking.
Another tale of BSA shortsightedness that occurred near the end was one of their engineers (Bert Hopwood?) approached the board with a couple of suggestions. one being "modular biking" IE instead of having to tool up the production line for different models why not make them have common cycle parts such as the frame, forks, electrics etc?
His vision was a vee twin a normal but overhead cam twin (Designed By Ed Turner but finished and improved by Hopwood and Doug Hele) and a single. all sharing common parts aside from the engine which would lower stock levels and be easier to produce day to day.
Suffice to say he was shot down in short order.
His second idea was why not use computers which were just coming in to their own when designing frames and such like. Instead of endless stress and road testing why not feed the data into the computer and let it come up with an optimum deign?
Again no go. I do believe it was soon after that he left to join either Yamaha or Suzuki who quickly took his ideas on board.
So much for British endeavour.
A couple of pics of the proposed 350 OHC twin in both Triumph and BSA guise.
