He was the middle child and second son to whom I related better than his older brother Jason (because the older one suffered as a result of my learning curve) but his mother made up for my inabilities.
Daniel was extremely intelligent, plucky and the two of us got on like a house on fire, at least until middle school. If I showed him something, like programming in Basic or that bloody awful language Apple 2's used, he would immediately do his best to top me.
He was always in the top stream of school, was ready to take on any challenge and teen years passed as they do until he joined the Navy as a radar/computer E.E.
I was very proud of him and he came down to Virginia from Schenectady to help me get my knee joint replacement and stay with him until I was fit to return home. Fortunately that meant he spent his last weeks with me.
I love him more than you can imagine and his departure has left a huge hole in my life.
