Like Galileos saying two balls of different weight will fall at the same speed but how to demonstrate this in practice?
So I built a spiral ramp very carefully about 6'' wide and 2 foot high with the correct camber to ensure the balls would stay. on centre
Only they didnt! The small marble always won but the big one always went to the outside barrier and the friction slowed it down by a hair.
I built the ramp anticipating problems and could adjust it for camber and drop angle but time and again the same result.
My scientist friends at NASA asserted my result was impossible but were as baffled as I after trying it out.
Travis was a patient and methodical boy. Very hands on practical and he stayed behind after school for a week until he announced that Mr Dench and Galileo were right and he knew why the demo hadnt worked.
