I mean if you could see the circumstances in which I am forced to type, you'd sympathise I'm sure. Its a bit like trying to use a laptop suspended from the underside of the car you're lying underneath in an unlit garage. Anyway enough moans.
I do usually recall what I've read, for example Fred's response to my trainsounds link, I haven't forgotten mate and I quite agree especially about the turbo charged Gardner diesels they used in the HST and the Deltic? That has a magic all its own in the sound category. Lovely two stroke diesel.
On the subject of trains of course I registered Sarge's sly dig about the vastly superior GWR to the less than stellar LNER...actually I have always thought Nigel Gresley and Edward Turner (of Triumph m/cycles) had a lot in common. Their designs are undoubtedly graceful, even powerful but they both are somewhat under engineered. Turners perennial crankshaft bearing failures and Gresleys weird valve gearing.
Compared to the gorgeous muscular looks of the Halls, Castles and Kings and their performance as Clydesdales rather than Arabs, well I know which I'd rather have pulling my express and don't give me that nonsense about how the GWR had it easy, what about their lines into Wales? Hardly flat going I think?
I know that both camps are equally justified in their pride of their stable and Mallard does rather trump the hand but don't forget it was the GWR that first ran a 100mph service and that pulled by a 4-4-0 as per:-

Who else have I forgotten to upset/reply to?
I'll find your sound links Fred, promise.
