I'm not an unabashed Royalist, but I feel comfortable (hopefully without presumption) in saying I understand, especially as someone borne outside the UK. I don't follow the tabloid doings of every Royal with rabid interest like so many over here. I'm not really interested in their private lives and foibles(though I admit finding Meghan truly annoying; I never thought I'd live to see the day I'd actually agree with Piers Morgan, of all people).
I do have immense respect for the calm consistency, even in the face of tragedy, personal and national. There is something very important that I cannot quite put a finger on as I write this, perhaps its the personification, if not the source, of a unique and unwavering national dignity, one we certainly can't point to on this side of the Puddle.
On a related note, I was lucky enough to see the Trooping of the Colour back in the mid-80s. Just a fantastic experience. I hope today's gets video'd and posted somewhere in its entirety. I shall watch it.
That said, HM has been a fixture as Head of State for my entire life, and a rock of sanity in an insane world. God bless'r!
