A massive collection of photographs and various other ephemera all stored on a server that was blisteringly fast! Pages would load in under a second at any time of day regardless of how hard the site was being hammered. It's on site search engine was superb, giving exactly what you were looking for without the "Google-useless-space-waster answers." In short just the job.
But then.....
"Hi there Fred just a line to let you know we are upgrading our site so you can have a more rewarding experience...." Yadda yadda yadda.
Now the site works at a pace that the average three toed sloth would say "keep up old lad."
The search engine?
previously if I entered say " pictures of Green lane Bradford." I would get the reply "There are just five pictures as per your request here they are..."
Great just the job but now!?
"There are 123456 pictures per your request."
The search engine now flags up any comment, sentence etc that contains either the words green-lane-pictures-Bradford-Brad-Ford etc etc.
In short bloody useless and life is too short to stuff mushrooms or wade through that bloody lot to find what I'm after.
The old site worked and was highly praised by other historical groups so why change? By all means fix what is broken but in this case no.
The nice millennial who sent me the e-mail included a list of pro-nouns he (I assume as no gender preference stated) wished to be known by. I mentally declined his kind offer and made a note of a pro-noun I thought more apt in this instance.
"Thanks for that Fred, now over to Gus with the weather." (Groans inwardly)
