There's a lot to be said for pulling out a bit of track, a clockwork or electric loco, and a few pieces of rolling stock, and having a go on the dining room or kitchen table. It can be great fun on a dreary day when the weather or the back is poorly. A couple of years ago, I joined Sarge for a trip up to a local hobby store where I bought a few packs of Kato sectional N-gauge track just for this purpose. I still have a pile of gear from my youthful N-gauge days, and I wanted to get some of that out and see what still ran (most of it). The Kato sectional locks together, so no worries about things popping apart when the daily express pounds over the rails. I believe Bachmann also makes a locking sectional track, and probably a bit less pricey. Anyway, I'm with ya; a great deal of fun can be had with a minimum of resources and a bit of imagination.
