The Spit has a hardtop, so no lowering the hood on sunny days. The top is part of the body structure, clamped in place adds a very noticeable amount of stiffness, important for intended purpose.
Its a rare open car that retains stiffness; a Midget is one due to the very high sides ratio'd against length and width. The Spit is quite a bit lower, so the hardtop adds much, adding to cornering power and repeatability.
The car is period-modified for regularity-rallying; horsepower uprated but not stupidly, suspension stiffened but puts all the power on the ground, navigation timing gear installed, &c. Not a summer top-down cruiser, I'm afraid. GRIN!
