"We're sorry for any inconvenience", "We apologise for the delay" all hollow meaningless twaddle when no action is taken to fix the problem. Apparently, a refund and a meaningless phrase is good enough in this day and age in America; heaven forbid we actually do something about the root cause of the failure; hire some staff, fix a system, pack merchandise adequately for shipment, ensure the right item is included in the order.
An apology not followed by fixing the behaviour is insincere. You don't mean it, you aren't sorry enough to fix the problem. If you are going to deflect it rather than own it, just shut the hell up. Its an insult and a another meaningless passive aggressive American behaviour I have come to loathe.
