A house without mechanical clocks is just too silent for me. It's the heartbeat of a home. I am just now looking across the room at a little Seth Thomas mantle clock that is 125 years old. An old friend gave it to me; it was a wedding gift to his parents. While there was a period when it wasn't running, it still has ticked a helluva lot of tocks in its lifetime! I have its history written on a card in the back of the case.
In the library hangs another Seth, this one a "regulator" from the railroad station in the town my mother was born. Another fortunate antique whose history is intact and documented, again on paper stored in the case.
