Its all very well thinking that life is going so well that theres no need to participate in the various stages of the process (mid terms etc.) but that way lies corruption . Thats how less than worthy people get their opportunity to slide into power.
Of course there are many other ways of misleading or corrupting the political process, not least the media especially radio and TV but what we need for democracy to work properly is a return to first principles.
One could do worse than study its origins in ancient Greece although that too was eventually corrupted by what amounts to a party political presence. Look at what happened to poor old Socrates!
If I was to put my money where my mouth is (far too late now) then I should have pursued a path as an Independent based upon my values and my love of my country which, I think, might have gotten me started on the ladder of progress assuming I wanted that, which I wouldn't.
I mean we have the potential for a fierce difference of opinion within the Club itself, God forbid!
Fred has had the politeness to spare us his point of view but from what I've read here and at WoS it is definitely divergent from mine. I was, comparatively, born with the proverbial silver spoon in my mouth, whereas Fred had to do it the hard way and its much to his credit that he did.
I'm much obliged to him for all his helpfulness with my computer struggles and for participating here however much some of my values and assumptions may be anathema to him.
Then again I think that the Club in its small way may exemplify how the democratic process should work.
Needless to say Sarge I'm also indebted to you for your generosity and forebearance.
