Just got back from N.Norfolk refreshed, rejuvenated ready for some club conversation and give old Hobbes and his ladies their voices back.
I see there has been quite a bit of chat in my absence (was it something I said? I did pay my bar bill!) and a few faces from WOS have dropped in to say hello so good show those men!
I have skim read some of the posts a riposte or two springs to mind.
Mike you say in one post that I may find some of your thoughts and feelings an anathema to myself. Let me divest thee of any such thing. One of the biggest attractions of the company herein is the diversity of life experience and diversity of honestly held beliefs, expressed in a somewhat refreshing no holds barred manner, that makes for good debate and general mild rumination amongst a bunch of reprobates such as ourselves.
Long may this continue.
The other point is your interest in UDG design for the Spectrum. This is something that is also a hobby horse of my own, albeit for the ZX81.
I have converted around twenty or so titles that use the clunky standard character set of that computer to UDGs of my own design and find the exercise quite rewarding, creating something hopefully aesthetically pleasing inside an 8x8 box, whilst having zero interest in the games themselves sadly, preferring to use the little black box as a computer, especially now we have a spanking new Forth language for it, rather than a games console, also it's a party I came rather late to as the games of my youth involved air rifles conkers whip 'n' tops and tors (much like yourself I imagine).
Whilst the children of the eighties can as adults continue to play the computer games of their childhood canopied under the sobriquet of being a "gamer" and therefore free from admonishment for pursuing such juvenile (not meant unkindly) fancies, I would opine that should I decide to relive the games of my callow years such as those aforementioned I would expect to attain a different nom de guerre than that of "gamer" followed, possibly, by an enforced course of psychiatric therapy. The sight and sound of a grey whiskered bald old "kid" sat in the middle of the street thumb flicking coloured glass balls or playing hop scotch would not, I fear, be conducive to friendly relations amongst polite society and I don't think there is a title I could hide behind should I decide to pursue such endeavours. (laughs)
You also mentioned Suffolk which, as I think I may have said before, is where originally my paternal lot come from. (Thornham Parva)
Sarge. As promised I had a chat with one of the lifeboat crew and the outgoing Mersey class boat is initially going to be part of the retained fleet then eventually sold to whoever has the moolah to buy it.
Hope all here and their loved ones are well (Thinking of Tam especially Mike) Sarge give old Hobbes and Poppet a fuss from this side of the puddle and hope your not still too down now your lad is at university.
That's all for now men.
As you were chaps as you were!
