I thought you guys might find this interesting. I was up to the TCA meet at York this past Friday and often times you find esoteric items totally unrelated to model railroads. I found this laying on a table, asking price one buck, and as an avid collector/builder of miniature ship models, had to have it. It's a wooden model of a USN escort carrier of the
Casablanca-class, made in kit form by Strombecker during the war and the years immediately following.
Some kid did a nice job building and painting this some 75 years ago.
Strombecker marketed it specifically as
USS Gambier Bay, one of the small carriers lost at the Battle of Samar at Leyte Gulf. Very cool, a nice addition to the ship cabinet.
