I do remember Rolls Royce making the concious decision to get out of piston aero engines altogether just at the end of the war, so I'm comfortable with the Crecy itself being stillborn for that reason.
Still, the concept seems to have died with it and, if it was a marked performance improvement in piston petrol engines, why wasn't the concept pursued?
I still suspect reliability was the elephant in the room on this one...
