If memory serves, you had the Romans who took Phoenicia from the Armenians who took it from the Seleucid Greeks who took it from the Ptolemaic Egyptians who might have taken it from the Seleucids or maybe not but all this confusing back-n-forth after Alexander the Great and the Macedonian Greeks. All this took place near and before 100BC (again by memory so you can dig around some sources for better accuracy).

You can pick the litter on that crowd, and all that before the Arabs and Islamification then a Crusade or two if you want to move forward a bit after the Romans.
