As far as Tim knew, the world behind the Barrier should be exactly as he remembered it. He had a slight confusion, lapse of memory about passing through the gateway but it was probably fatigue.
It was just slightly unsettling that Brythan's fey reservation seemed to feel strange, as if he'd never been here before, which was silly! All he had to do was remember the landmarks that would lead to the dwarfs village.
How long was the journey there? Tim couldn't remember that, hadn't he met the dwarf quite near the barrier? Why was his memory failing him now of all times, what on earth was the matter, perhaps he was in need of food, hadn't he still got some in his satchel?
All he had in it was a journal, odd that, he'd meant to pack his sketchbook and art materials, maybe he'd left them behind by accident, never mind it wasn't important. Perhaps he ought to sit down and have a rest, maybe a nap, that was why he felt so out of place, it was just fatigue.
Sometimes you take yourself for granted like you're an indestructible force but the will power cannot overcome the needs of the body as Mr Hodson had warned him on more than one occasion when they were studying.
He found himself a comfortable spot in the partial shade of a willow tree, the day was fine, the sunshine hot and Tim fell asleep almost immediately.

I knew you would return to me, my love.
She disrobed and straddled the bemused but not unwilling Tim who was also naked, to his surprise. Their mutual climax was tempestuous and thenshe disappeared....there was an odd humming not unlike a beehives sound....
Tim, to his surprise, found himself lying under a tree in a meadow, in the Citadel....the Citadel!?
"Hey wake up my lad, this is no place to sleep, t'will be dusk soon enough. Glad to see you am I, though I didn't believe my daughter Blase's claim that she saw you cross the barrier in her dreams"
What was Garm doing here in the Citadel, Tim wondered and then realised there was no such meadow in that densely crowded city.
Finally the dream dissolved under the onslaught of these incongruities, as is so often the case in dreams, Tim finally awoke properly but no one else was around, for which he was grateful all things considered.
The only thing that stayed a while in the fleeting memory of the dream, was that peculiar humming sound, where had it come from, why did it seem important enough to linger momentarily?
************************************************************************************************
The voice was Garm's his dwarf friend and Tim came awake properly and got up, picking up his satchel that he'd used as a pillow. Apart from feeling slightly dishevelled, Tim was glad to note he was fully clothed, that dream had been convincing.
