I am terrible at human anatomy, my pictures are rarely peopled for that reason and where I do put one in I usually do my best to present it in such an angle that its shortcomings are not readily apparent.
Determined to make a better attempt at peopling my story I took two photographs, one of my stepson Ariel and one of myself and put them in the bottom left of the frame quite large and heres the real parts of the body- looking outwards!
So now I have 2/3 of a white background and no room to 'explain' why they are looking out, at what and how does it affect the background?
My first attempt was a cop out, the usual mountainous landscape plus a castle tower behind the figures which gave me a wall to hide the lower
bodies, below the waist. Do a multiple wash and hope for the best, meaning let it dry and see what suggests itself?
No something told me this wasnt going to work, and anyway I wanted to have a more nautical setting, maybe Carrack Roads (Falmouth harbour with Pendennis Castle in the mid ground) but then why are my two subjects looking away from such a splendid view and how much shipping can fit in the space?
Something more dramatic is required, possibly man and boy on the stern castle with a steersman on the wheel/tiller behind them and ropes and spars filling up the rest?
Well it sounds plausible but the minds eye is far more accomodating than my artistic abilities..
