WENCESLAS 16B part 3
That enigmatic feature of Brythan, its BARRIER, is not apparent to the human denizens of the fortunate island for whom said barrier is non existent!
That is to say that although they have unimpeded access to the Northern end of Brythan, those lands inhabited by the fey are protected by being maintained as a separate, parallel manifestation.
This is a spatial and temporal gradient which gradually increases the dimensional separation between human and fey.
It is not known how the barrier came into being, sometime in the very distant past long before any human tribes had ventured onto the adjacent continent and long before Brythans existence was eventually discovered by fishermen in their search for fresh or more abundant catches.
Scant traces exist that suggest a more advanced civilization may have once existed. In Brythan the road called the Kings Highway or sometimes the Great North road, wasn't built by any Brythanic king because they have never been ruled or conquered by any single family who gave themselves such airs!
Brythans have never subscribed to any religious superstitions, being essentially a pragmatic folk despite some odd constructions here and there such as massive stone constructions, circles, artificial mounds and so forth whose existence and purpose is a mystery.
However the various tribal communities such as those that are fishermen and who mine for lead and tin in the south western peninsula, have a rich fund of stories and beliefs in the existence of mythical creatures said to help or hinder these people.
Fishermen and seamen in particular are notorious for their exaggeration and imagination (or outright lying). It is no great wonder that the stone constructions referred to are mostly to be found in this same south western area.
So Brythan is host to various anomalies, most of them peculiar to specific occupations and their communities, which largely remain confined to the province of traveling tavern story tellers who make their living by entertaining rural audiences hungry for something to brighten their lives.
