When writing becomes a slog instead of an expression of ones joie de vivre, there is no incentive to continue however incomplete the piece may be.
I sometimes wish that I had a typewriter, not an expensive printer, to be able to easily store and read the pages and correct or retype if necessary, preferring marker pens to underline mistakes or mark points of insertion.
Until it began to seem as if this story - Brythan - might amount to anything worth taking seriously, I had no organised structure to it other than hoping each installment read well and left the reader waiting for more of the same.
If it hadn't been for Sarge's encouragement and invaluable advice, this story wouldn't have gone as far as it has and that realisation set the stage for the next roadblock to creativity.
I never had any structure to it, no concept as to its eventual ending, no character development, no set players and nothing for them to act out. The whole story was really based on descriptions of places and things with the central character simply there to connect the dots, so to speak.
To put it simply, as the story stands it would be impossible to make a movie from a script like this. I could map out the locations, build some sets but forget casting and directing theres nothing for the actors to do if the director was asked to get going.
One could argue that this movie analogy is irrelevant and there is nothing wrong with a serialised tale. One could further argue that it would be best to continue as before and hope that the 'missing' elements eventually emerge in due course but that depends upon the readership being happy with the way the story has gone thus far.
If I - the author - don't feel its worth continuing because of the lack of interest demonstrated by the numerous visitors to this site who never acknowledge their interest then they (this is NOT directed at Sarge, Fred or Paul) have only got themselves to blame if I stop writing in the current undisciplined manner.
However I also have to face my internal critic that is getting more and more persistent about the story's shortcomings as already mentioned.
