Were the seasons of our youth really any different than today?
As kids we played for ever in the long summer break, searched for conkers and the like when the first mists and frosts of autumn descended upon us and when the snows of winter made themselves known we fashioned our snowmen, threw snowballs and revelled in the crisp white sound deadened wonderland that was our playground.
Fast forward or avance rapide as the French would have it and what do find?
Well I for one have no desire to spend too long in the sun without my factor 5000 slathered liberally all over. The scavenging of conkers during the misty season is nothing but a distant memory and as for winter I find myself saying now, unlike then, "Put another log on the fire Maisy it's in for the night!"
Our childhood fancies played out during the changing seasons belong now to another country yet I don't believe it's because the weather is somehow different now only our grown up reaction to it.
Come summer the sun still shines like it always did, November still brings the mist and the rain and winter the snow.
I believe it's only a matter of perception and things weren't too different climate wise back in my youth and yes I know there is always the odd upset to that along the way with the odd way out flash in the pan freak weather anomaly, it is ever thus as the saying goes.
Climate change, real or supposed, what do we do about it?
Well touching upon Your point Sarge re the fate of humanity I firmly believe that entropy will play its part in this insofar as our supposed well ordered existence must eventually fall into the sea as it were, as everything that exists will eventually spiral down to die in disordered chaos as entropy dictates. I would imagine that climate change is indicative of this. Stable weather patterns over the aeons are now giving way to what we regard as not being the norm and I say again I think this is evidence of entropy reducing a well ordered system to something more chaotic, though how long it will take for this happen with or without human intervention is debatable.
