We have it here, too, though the biggest problem is from external salts rather than from the water used in the construction. The best example is the damage road-salts and calcium chloride solutions used very cavalierly here do to bridges and culverts. Another thing common in our local area is the lime in the groundwater when used in mortars and concrete rather than (or in addition to) the salts.
