When I was a teenager, I read a lot of historical fiction. F. Van Wyck Mason was one of my favorite authors. His prose was heavily laden with historical detail which, for me, was the best bit. I learned a lot. So when it comes to including some technical details/description, I for one find that of value. You gotta weave it in, though, so it doesn’t chop the story up, and that can be work.
Anyway, my two cents.
