My previous post mentioned how a simple word or phrase can unlock the thoughts of yesteryear.
Well in your post, Sarge, it was the word "Frog" in relation to kits.
Frog, along with Matchbox semi coloured kits were always regarded by ourselves as being the cheap and cheerful end of the stick, nothing wrong with that, but again it sparked a wave of melancholic nostalgia.
Outside piss stones freezing cold in winter and streets lit by gaslights, the last of which were still in use in our area as late as the 70's.
Unlike some I cannot look back on those days in a general sense with any degree of fondness regardless of a feeling of longing for a few defined elements of said era, nine of us living hand to mouth wasn't a happy experience, no it could best be described as a grey dullness punctuated by the odd ray of sunshine with model making, air rifles, marbles and scrambling BSA Bantams on the local coal mine slag heaps offering a brief respite from what seemed at the time endless mundanity.
In other news, Fred has just taken delivery of a twelve pack of Guinness which at precisely 7:00pm tomorrow will be attacked with much relish!!
(Laughs maniacally then collapses into a gibbering heap.)
