When I first moved to the mid-Atlantic I was told how wonderful they were, how childhood memories were made of hot delicious goodness in every bag or box. I was driven to the Krispy Kreme place by well meaning friends one morning and there they were. Fresh, hot, sugary nuthin'.
After years of New England and Upstate New York, real doughnuts on every street corner, Mr. Donut staring down Dunkin' Donuts across every intersection, real cake doughnuts, doughnuts with fruit fillings, blueberry cake, frosted, Boston Cremes; apple cinnamon ones were my favourite. But Krispy Kreme? What the hell is that?
Don't get me started on what the Millennials and Gen Zeds have done to my childhood Dunkin' Donuts either. Now just another purveyor of shit craft designer coffee drinks. The doughnuts are trucked in, not made in-house. How the mighty have fallen. It is to weep.
I might be old and fat, but it surer 'n hell isn't because of Krispy Kreme (or Dunkin' as it exists today for that matter).
GRIN!
