Legacy
(Viola Jacobson Berg)
They wait and watch
with weary stealth,
inquire often
of my health . . .
These second cousins,
even friends,
are wondering when
my journey ends,
for my estate
they realize
will be their long
awaited prize.
They are discreet
but I can tell
they hope I'll go
to sleep, and, well . . .
just pass away
with dignity,
and they will mourn
with inward glee . . .
I'll play their game,
give tit for tat,
and leave my money
TO MY CAT!
