On Saturday we went out to a couple second-hand shops we like to frequent; you by now know how I love these sorts of places.
Anyway, it was an experiment as much as a mission, the former to see how my back would tolerate the experience and the latter to find a topper, some sort of star or faerie, for the tree put up in the library this year.
A word about that last one. Since this is Lucy the Micro-panther's first Christmas with us, we don't know how she will treat a Christmas tree, she being young, energetic, and athletic. We put the usual tree up in the front room but decorated in unbreakable baubles and plushies. So far, she (and the rest of the pride) is more than happy pulling the odd thing off and batting it about the house.
Meanwhile, we bought a cheap smaller tree to put up in the library (behind a closed door when necessary) to hold the more breakable decorations that folks wanted on display.
Back on track, then. Whilst in one of the consignment shops we frequent, there was on sale a lovely leather library chair marked "as is". Why so marked is a bit of a mystery, as everything in a consignment shop is by definition "as is". Anyway, delightfully comfortable and not a huge thing.
The previous owner must have had a cat as there were a few minor picks in it, like I care (GRIN!) Maybe that was what they meant, or perhaps it was because it wouldn't recline, though it did rotate and rock.
It turned out after getting it home and doing some research the release to recline it was hidden away between the cushion and the arm of the chair; works just fine. That same research found the thing to be of some hideously expensive Italian manufacture.
All in, though, a $23.50 Chrissie present to me!
Or is it to me after all? It seems we have a bit of a territorial dispute:
