Britain learned that, as a seafaring nation, a free-trade policy is far more enriching than one restricted by tariff and isolationism, at least relearnt in the era of Gladstone and the repeal of the corn laws.
Odd to me that so many in America had no idea they were the ones who would be paying the tax, not the country of origin. A tariff is a tax on the consumer to discourage his purchasing imports; there is nothing positive about them.
How strange this man has somehow convinced the nation with the world's most powerful navy that isolationism and protectionism is a thing, the purpose of a navy by Thayerism being to protect sea lanes; the purpose of sea lanes for international commerce.
These people are so ignorant of the world around them they believe a "world economy" is a new thing and something to be feared. They have no idea the world economy goes back to the days of the Mediterranean city-states.
They are about to pay dearly for their own ignorance and their complete lack of motivation to do anything about their own ignorance. It's amazing to me such a large percentage of the population of such a powerful nation is barely sentient enough to breed without hurting themselves. Unfortunately, they can do that.
