We've had a very cool spring here, so the humidity in general is still "winter" low. Clear dry air in concert with the mountains upwind of us, the effects can be dramatic, especially the reflective/refractive effects of those very high clouds (ice rather than water vapour).
From midwinter through springtime can be spectacular. Once the shift to summer patterns occurs, the east-coast humidity (even in the mountains) tends to tone things down.
