We had a pair of fox frequenting our garden a few years ago, but they've apparently moved on. Between them and the red-shouldered/red-tailed hawks, the squirrel population was maintained at a low level. Since the fox departed, the squirrels have rebounded. My farm friends tell me coyotes have moved into the county and that they are driving the fox population out of the countryside and into more populous areas.
Nothing as chilling as the bark of a fox in the middle of the night. It even freaks the retrievers.
