Again I do so love this part of the year.
I remember as a small boy I would cycle all the way to the river Wharfe at a place called Easedike to fish for Pike, for the pot, and I always enjoyed the autumn mornings rather than those of the other months.
I would sit on the bank and wait for Mr water rat to make his appearance from right to left in the morning then left to right come early evening.
I think this may have been the start of my lifelong anthropomorphising habit as I would voice him out loud saying "morning Fred, nice day for it!" as he paddled down river, followed by " See you next week lad" on his evening return.
Ahh Autumn mornings, such a pleasant path to have trod but never to pass that way again. (sigh.)
