I must admit the bit here that gets me into the bah-humbugs are the religious nutters who go to the extremes of renting hoardings/billboards to hit the rest of us with "Jesus is the reason for the season."

That just gets up my nose in the worst way. First off, it's a trite cliché; can't even express an original thought in your own words?

Second, it's historical bollocks. People were feasting and celebrating the passing of the Solstice, the return of light, and a new beginning long before the Christians decided that Jesus' birthday was the 25th December in a rather arbitrary manner, to be honest.

They want to change that to "Jesus is a reason for the season", I'm all in. Join the rest of the peoples of the world and be an important part of the fabric of the season, but quit with the notion they can come in late and just take over.
