I very much enjoy these forays into the kits of my youth. These are very relaxing because I'm not holding myself to the standard where the IPMS guys compete or (more importantly) the standards I hold myself to in my railway modelling. I'm not worried about correcting inaccuracies in these old kits or bringing the result up to the current levels of detailing or the telling of a story using them in a diorama as a 3d work of art.
Instead, these are little nostalgia blasts, training on how to cope with the effects of aging in the hands by working in a smaller scale, keeping skills sharp, and just the fun of it all. If I can get a clean, tidy, albeit a little simplistic result, I've hit my mark.
After spending a couple weeks doing a few, I find the mind cleansed and the hands and eyes back in harness for railway modelling.
The new decals for the P61 arrived yesterday, so that one is back in play. We'll see how it turns out.
