Was digging around recently in a box of stuff from my parents' attic...found this little AHM Gulf tank car in there:
I never made the transition from the Rapido-style coupler to Kadee as I had little interest in automatic uncoupling. I was perfectly happy with manually uncoupling the cars, and the ungainly appearance of these first-gen couplers never really bothered me. At some point I did invest in a few Rapido uncouplers, but they never really worked that great. As today, I was pretty much a looper even back then. Set 'em up and let 'em run...a bit of switching perhaps, but generally just let 'em run.
This 50+ year-old car has "AHM - Austria" embossed on the tank's underside, so another import for the early days of N-gauge in America.
Seeing these little orphans turn up on occasion has me thinking I should just chuck O and go back to my first love, N.
Just ramblin'...don't mind me.
