Interesting species, the Gray Treefrog. At rest they can change colour from very dark to almost white depending on their surroundings. On surfaces other than trees they apparently don't bother, but this one noticeably matches the colour of the weatherbeaten wood the hose reel is mounted upon.
Never is there a lack of interesting things to learn when it comes to nature, even in our own gardens. I've heard these guys all my time here in the eastern US but I have to admit I don't remember having actually encountered one in the wild. Like so many things, we never think to put aside our cares and look; meanwhile, they are masterful at camouflage and are probably observing us far more often...
