I may be reading too much into it but I felt it is almost a cry for help now the aforementioned life pleasures are receding into that dark black night, again I'm probably seeing something that isn't there.
I can empathise with your plight as things that were an extension of self are now long gone.
A decent career in music which bought me a home and the usual trinkets that came with such a life was cast into oblivion when I threw a Triumph Bonneville down the local bypass. The Smith's fracture of my chord hand which ensued meant guitar and bass playing was out of the window due to the awkward angle I now had to hold the instrument and the severe pain that angle brought with it meant I bid adieu to that large part of my life. A short stint on my third instrument, drums, I found easy to do pain free but no satisfaction could I garner from the experience.
I enjoyed playing indoor football from 2015 to the Covid outbreak which once over and play resumed I busted my right knee so again bye bye love as they say.
There are other instances I could bang on about but don't want to wallow in misery nor inflict it on the membership but like yourself I'm coming around to a point of view re impending mortality and its implications.
I'm finding that life isn't really about the big, quick or sudden events it's more a collection of life's minutia which when weighed in gross adds up to things of purpose re life's experience and that the gradual creep of old age and the failings of the body that follows said ageing curtails these small but important pleasures leaving one to be referred to as a "grumpy old man" and the self taking his/her place in God's waiting room counting out the days to final oblivion.
It's the drip drip drip disappearance of said minutia that makes life less tolerable I find.
I do have one vestige of pleasure remaining, that of retro computing. Thankfully this doesn't require heavy lifting or similar physical accoutrements but even that pleasure is starting go south insofar as now I can no longer solder circuits with any confidence due to my unsteady hands and I require a magnification that the Hubble telescope would be proud of just to see the damn circuit board!
Still mustn't grumble as they say.
Bollocks to that!!! (LAUGHS MANIACALLY!)
"Thanks for that Fred, now here's Todd with the weather."
