The Department of Justice, and the Att'y General, are supposed to work for the American people as an objective legal authority.
For decades, sadly, they have tended to work for the President who appointed them at his behest only (see: John Mitchell). This needs to change.
However, given the partisan insanity of modern politics, this is unlikely..
