"Donald Trump has been mocked after pictures of his prompt cards show they are written in the same unhinged way he writes his tweets.
A zoom in of the prompt cards used during the US President's UN speech, show words like 'energy,' 'mortgage rates,' and 'defeated,' all capitalized. Trump was met with mockery after a picture of his prompt notes emerged.
One X user, Matthew Bell, wrote: "If you hold your phone at arm’s length and zoom out really far you can just about make out the MASSIVE LETTERING."
Trump's UN speech was slightly overshadowed by a defective teleprompter and a broken escalator, which Trump mentioned in the speech. He broke from his prepared remarks to bemoan the inoperable escalator in UN headquarters, which stopped just as Melania and Trump arrived at it and forced the pair to walk up the stairs.
“These are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter,” Trump poked, getting laughs from delegates and leaders.
Stephane Dujarric, the UN spokesperson, said the escalator’s abrupt stop happened after a videographer who accompanied the U.S. delegation may have inadvertently triggered a built-in safety mechanism.
A UN official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue said the White House was operating the teleprompter for the president.
In his rambling speech, Trump, told off the United Nations while praising the turn America has taken under his leadership while warning Europe will be ruined if it doesn’t turn away from a “double-tailed monster” of ill-conceived migration and green energy policies.
His roughly hourlong speech before the UN General Assembly was both grievance-filled and self-congratulatory as he used the platform to praise his second-term achievements and lament that some of his fellow world leaders’ countries were “going to hell.”
Trump’s speech, which more than tripled his allotted time, was filled with misleading claims, including ones about him putting an end to seven wars in just seven months.
Among the conflicts he claimed to have prevented were those between Israel and Iran, India and Pakistan and Congo and Rwanda.
“I have ended seven unendable wars, they said they were unendable,” he said. “I ended seven wars and in all cases they were ranging with countless thousands of people being killed.” He said no president or prime minister has “ever done anything close to that. And I did it in just seven months. It’s never happened before.”
The president’s speech was filled with awkward moments."
