It was surely my imagination, but I felt as if I could see & smell the blood, feel the acrid gunsmoke, and hear the moans of thousands of dying soldiers as I stood on the battlefield.

It was a humbling and horrifying experience I don't care to ever repeat.

It is one of several strange things that have overwhelmed me at times over the years while in places where I've later learned that traumatic events occurred.
