I'd pronounce 'boatswain' as 'BO-sun,' myself. And I'd say 'prelude' as 'PRAY-lude.'
'Pho' isn't English, so I didn't know it. I will say that there's a Vietnamese place in Columbus calling itself '6-1-Pho,' after our zipcode, 614...
