I wish more people would learn where their brand of holiday tradition actually comes from. Instead of just 'well that's the way we always did it and why can't we recreate it exactly the same forever'

I am one who like to honor past traditions as well as adapting and creating new ones in the family. But there are many extended family who balk at my method of celebrating 'tradition'. My many branches have many heritage specific things and I welcome them all but never focus on specific things as absolute for the celebration.

Some years we do our own thing at home and host other years we go visiting or fly solo.

In recent years extended family gatherings include some online gaming for parties. Jackbox tv is a fun one with the younger ones. Cards, puzzles, are also popular with everyone.

So the food menu at home will vary year to year., because of my expanded heritage. As well as the decor and fun.
