But many of them become actors in longest running political theater song and dance routine in modern times, and it's more vaudeville than broadway, or they get run out in one form or another. Usually through redistricting.

R or D is also a very regional thing.

As a kid long before I could vote it never made sense to me that a MN DFL-er was clearly not the same as a Dixiecrat but somehow they were in the same party. They seemed to have a more stark contrast than Republican differences at that time.

Then I watched social and economic policies shift sides in both parties in their regions. Several politicians flipped parties too.

When I began voting and until today my ballot is often a mixed ballot. Fed and State I make my decisions based on a candidates platform more than party lines. Some issues stand out more than others but 1 issue is rarely a deciding factor.

The system in general is inherently flawed with the current party system. Ranked choice voting is the only thing that will bring more politicians to the center rather than pandering to extremists.
