COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A former Ohio State athletics official testified that he believed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) likely knew of rumors of former university physician Richard Strauss’ sexual abuse.

In newly unsealed depositions, former Ohio State Athletic Director Andy Geiger said he found it unlikely that Jordan had no knowledge of Strauss’ abuse. At least four former wrestlers and one referee are on record claiming they complained about Strauss to Jordan. Jordan was an assistant wrestling coach at OSU while Strauss was a physician for the wrestling team, but has long denied knowledge of Strauss’ crimes.

“I — he was part of the wrestling program. I can’t imagine that he didn’t know about it,” Geiger said of Jordan.

The depositions of Geiger and other former athletics leaders were released Monday as part of an ongoing case between survivors of Strauss’ abuse and the university. Survivors allege the university covered up Strauss’ abuse, which spanned Strauss’ 20-year employment with OSU but did not come to light publicly until 2018. Ohio State denies this, claiming a limited number of people had authority to take corrective action.
