Districts ought to be drawn up in as objective and balanced a way as possible, but they never have. Elbridge Gerry, for whom the practice was named, was a Founding Father, remember. It goes back that far.

Liberals, in one of our worst tendencies, tend to think that you can remedy one kind of discrimination by enacting another.

Incidentally, what happens to Central Ohio, now? Almost humorously, Columbus has a large black population, as most black folks in central Ohio live here. Republicans made us a single district to ISOLATE black/liberal voters. Did that benefit black voters? No, it ended up making for even more GOP districts in Ohio.

It's not the Civil Rights era anymore. Let's stop living in it and move forward.
