there are two main amendments that will be on the ballot in Missouri in August. One is to revise the simple majority vote needed to amend the state constitution such that a small minority could prevent any amendment from happening. This in response to the people voting on a previous amendment to allow abortions rights. They don't want people to have that right.
The other amendment is to abolish state income taxes and allow for the government to make decisions on how to replace that revenue by putting higher taxes on goods and services or whatever. This was in response to the people voting against raising sales taxes to fund new sports stadiums. Basically, the aim is to cut taxes on the wealthy and replace the revenue with user taxes, which would result in burdening those who can least afford it.
Bottom line... the state government doesn't think people should be allowed to vote for what they want or don't want. And there are lots of ads on TV trying to mislead people on what the issues at hand actually are.
And of course, a lot of people don't even know there is an election day in August on these issues. Another strategy of theirs....
