Writing a book about George Washington and making up all kinds of fabricated nonsense to establish that Washington was an honest man throughout his life is bizarre. That such things were perfectly fine boggles the mind.

Even more crazy is that the fabricated stories were taught as fact to schoolchildren for more than 2 centuries. Apparently the fact that they were made up was known, but ignored!

Just like Paul Revere's midnight ride. He was not alone in warning the militias. William Dave's and Samuel Prescott were out warning their fellow revolutionaries too.

He also didn't yell "The British are coming". They considered themselves to be British as well. It is presumed that the warning was that "The Regulars are coming". IOW, the official British Army "regulars" in their red coats and full uniform.
