I understand that reactions to sexual assault are mixed and that fear of retaliation or of not being believed, a/o shame can cause people to stay silent for varying ranges of time, even forever.
Still, it is much less common for people to tell others that they successfully rebuffed unwanted advances and decades later claim they were raped.
I'd like to hear the circumstances around why she once claimed that she had rebuffed his advances. It kinda doesn't make sense to say anything at all if she didn't want to claim rape unless there were circumstances where there was evidence that something happened and she was directly asked about it so had to respond. Otherwise, why say anything?
If she was too embarrassed, ashamed, or afraid to tell the truth then, was she threatened or paid off?
It is difficult to form an opinion either way in this kind of situation. It is much easier to believe someone who stayed silent than someone who denied sexual assault but claimed that she had been approached and deferred.
I want to believe her because we all know what kind of creep he is, but she's made it difficult to take her word for it.
In a world where you can be anything, choose to be kind.![]()
